New Cutting Edge Program Helps Young People “Adult” & Addresses Failure to Launch

Space of Mind and its Community Classroom Project have introduced a new residential program, Launch Pad, to help young adults bridge the gap between academic life and adulthood. The program is created for young adults aged 18-26 who can benefit from training in the essential skills they need as they approach the next phase of their lives. The program complements its Mind the Gap, a curated gap year program.

Launch Pad houses its students in the heart of downtown Delray Beach and develops a personalized program equipping students with workforce training, life coaching, life skills development, socializing and community building, and parent coaching.  The students reside in a thriving community at a luxurious building, walking distance to campus and to the beach, and in the heart of Delray Beach’s entertainment, business and cultural district.

The program supports young adults who are experiencing anxiety or need more time and guidance as they transition beyond the structured environment of school or home. A significant number of today’s young adults need help with “adulting” skills, including time management, establishing career goals, and developing social skills that might be lacking due to excessive screen time and gaming, as well as isolation they faced while coming of age during Covid.

Further, a number of young adults suffer from anxiety and depression. To strengthen the transition for the whole family, the program includes coaching for parents as they navigate this stage alongside their young adults.

According to polls including a recent Gallup study, young people, particularly young men aged 18-25 are lonely (25%) and feel stress daily (57%). According to a study by Beyond Booksmart, “failures to launch,” including a lack of self-management skills, parent enablement, milestones/rites of passage, substance use disorders, mental health disorders, learning disorders, and motivation issues.

“We launched Space of Mind in 2004 to coach those dealing with busy brains as we found that traditional systems were not for everyone,” said Ali Kaufman, founder of Space of Mind. “Anxiety and depression are rampant, and many young adults feel stuck, having faced school shootings, Covid, excessive screen time, and other stress factors. We developed this program to help young adults succeed into adulting with guidance and community support.”

Ms. Kaufman went on to say, “Space of Mind aims to bridge this gap by creating a personalized, passion-focused program where young adults will be equipped with workforce training, life coaching support, and social experiences to maximize their “adulting” potential and feel empowered to create the life they want to live. We are hearing from parents all over the world, and the issues young people today face are not unique to South Florida. We plan to expand this concept to other locations as we grow.”
