This Wednesday our high school students went to the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League in West Palm Beach for a community service field trip! We had an incredible behind-the-scenes tour, walking through cat and dog enclosure areas, the surgery facility (where we got to watch a kitten getting spayed) and the Rainbow Bridge facility, which supports families in saying goodbye to their ill and elderly pets.

We worked on various projects while we were at the facility, including dusting the outside of large cages that contained adorable kittens. We were all so excited when we got to hold and play with them when the dusting was complete! We also put together adoption boxes, which are cardboard crates used to take home adopted kittens! 

Our students learned about the importance of spay and neutering their animals and always choosing to adopt shelter pets rather than purchasing animals from pet stores, which often come from unhealthy and abusive circumstances, like puppy mills. Our students also learned that  an unspayed female cat and her offspring can produce 450,000 kittens in just seven years!
